If you are looking for used bicycles and parts in Ottawa, go to re-Cycles. You can do bicycle repair or bicycle tune up there too. A very affordable place where volunteers with passion for bicycles guide you how to repair your bike and also you can gain an invaluable hands-on knowledge on your bike’s workings.
I got this bike from my friend (he bought a new bicycle so he did not need this one) It was fairly ok but it needed some repair and tune up to get it to a better shape. It needed new tires, the rear wheel was bent and gears were not working properly. I was on a tight budget so I thought about trying to do all the fixes myself. Of course the first thing I did was checking some videos on YouTube to see what I could do myself. However, after watching a few of them I was still not confident enough on tackling the project on my own.

I am lucky to have a neighbour who is really passionate about bicycles so I decided to seek his advice. Well, it turned out that it could be rather complicated for me to do all of the repairs by myself without some experience and tools. I would need some parts as well. But he told me about this amazing place with used bicycles where I could get all I was looking for and something that would also probably fit my budget. It was called re-cycles and was located not far from the downtown. I decided to give it a try.
It turned out that it was exactly what I was looking for. A small community shop run by volunteers with a big passion for bicycles. There were tons of used bicycle parts, all neatly arranged around the shop. There were 3 bicycle stands that, each with a volunteer bicycle expert. I was doing most of the work on my own but under the guidance of the technician — a big plus.
In 2 hours I was done with a replaced rear wheel, derailleur and tire plus I managed to do a tune up on the bike as well. And everything under $50 with a big bonus – lots of fun, and invaluable learning experience!
